April WIPocalypse

It is once again time for WIPocalypse and this month’s question is

What do you listen to while stitching?

Movies, TV, Web series, you name it. I watch it while stitching, unless it‘s subtitled, can‘t stitch while reading unfortunately., and the Movie Project documents it all.

We had a IHSW hangout last week and it was so amazing as all 6 of us were actually all on AT THE SAME TIME we’ve never managed to do that before, as a result I got a lot done on Mulan this week,
and I have started a little Mill Hill nativity, the first time I’ve worked on paper, it’s kind of cool

As for what I watched.

Critical Role Role - 50TH EPISODE

Supernatural  S11 E17-18 Finally caught up again

The Librarians - S01 E01-08 Since I caught up to Supernatrual I figured either Doctor Who or the Librarians were next, The Librarians won and I decided to rewatch the first season as well.

Titan’s Grave - Rewatch complete ready for next season now

Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog - This is what happens when really creative people get bored. I find it amusing  that you can buy the DVD despite the fact that it’s always been free online, and we all do because it's so fun.

Dune - This film from 1984 is a perfect example of style over substance, it is a truly beautiful movie and even 30 years later the special effects hold up well. But for such a dense source material the story is missing.  They got such a host of brilliant actors and then gave them nothing to work with. The dialogue is stilted and repetitive.  I didn’t buy this movie it was a gift, but worth the watch just to see how pretty it is.

And this completes the letter D.  Now onto U.

Final Ornaments

I finally finished the Magical Ornaments project, mostly because of curling, it’s really easy to stitch through.  I only did one of each month not all the extras ones though they may get done as biscornus or gifts when I need them as they are all so pretty.  I had originally thought of using them as stocking gifts for Christmas, but my mother has fallen for them and insists that all 12 need to be on our Christmas tree next year.
October November and December
Ready to be finished
All together

October
November
December
Mulan is still going strong as well. I also have a super secret project on the go, but it is likely to remain a secret so forget you ever read this.

As for what I watched.

Critical Role - Not live unfortunately the last couple weeks, early start time for work got in the way

Titansgrave - rewatch!!!!! This was my gateway drug to Critical Role

Men’s World curling Championships - YAY CANANDA

Supernatural - S11 E13-16  Catching up on my boys, can’t believe I go so far behind.

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood -  I don’t usually go for the “My mother ruined my life” melodramas, but this one has Sandra Bullock and Maggie Smith in it, And just the right amount of humour as well.

Doom - Based on the game, which should just make it silly, but in truth there is a pretty good sci-fi story amongst all the violence. And honestly you can’t go too wrong when you have both The Rock and Karl Urban

WIPacolypse March

This month’s WIPocolpyse question its (and look I’m even on time, possibly early)

Do you use hoops, stretcher bars, lap stands or Q snap frames and why?

I use hoops, I have small hands and the Q-snaps feel ackward in them and stitch curled up in a sofa so anything larger just won’t  sit well. I do own a couple scroll frames and they work nicely to display things at fall fair time, but they just don’t work for me as a stitching tool.

I’ve had three more ornament finishes as my lovely new charms arrived, so here is July, August and September.

And the unfinished October and start of November.

Also, look, an actual Mulan update as I managed to put in a couple movies in the non curling watching week,

I am almost finished Duck and Friends just the backstitching and name to go, will get the name and actual date of the kid on Easter when I see his grandmother.

As for what I watched.

Die Hard 2: Die Harder - Not as good as the original but still a solid action movie

Divergent - Rather handy that this came up alphabetically just when the new movie came out.  Still love this. And it introduced me to the books which quickly became a personal favorite,

Bunches of Finishes

It’s been a good week for finishes thanks to curling.  Although some have been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.  Last May I went to a wonderful bead store in Vancouver and bought 12 charms to dangle on the Magical ornaments.  I got 12, I watched the lady count out 12 when paying, I very much remember coming home and showing them to Mom and realizing I accidentally got 13 as they are thin and stick together, I used three for the ones I finished last year. And this year rolled around and I got ready for finish more, and could only find 6, I can not figure out where the other 3 or 4 went, I’ve looked everywhere. So easy solution I thought  my friend goes to school right near the wonderful store so I sent him in to get me more. But they were out, but would order some in, that was over a month ago and they have not been able to get them. So as of Saturday night I gave up and ordered some more charms, they are different but a similar size so I’ll do half with the original, and half with the new ones.  I have July, August and September ready to go as soon as the charms arrive therefore guaranteeing that one day later I will find the missing charms, AND my friend will call and tell me the other ones finally arrived.

While I haven’t worked on Mulan at all since the curling started I have started and got quite a ways on the baby announcement thingy for my nephews newest, I’ll have to do two of these this year as his brother’s wife is also expecting. Though I have a Hedwig one in mind for that baby.

WIPocalypse and Chess

February’s WIPocalypse question is If you have any of your pieces on display in your home, which attracts the most plaudits?

I have several on display but we don’t get a lot of company to comment on things, though I think the one that gets the most is the McGuire lake pattern made from my own photo by Pinky. We have fun with it as most people think it’s a photo until we tell them to look close.

Nothing like curling to spur on finishes, Magical’s ornaments are now stitched up to July, still waiting on charms to finish them completely. Might have to revise my plans as they don’t seem to be arriving any time soon. I had my friend order them from the shop I originally got them in and he hasn’t heard back from them yet.
Also I completely finished the lovely Chess mini pillow from Sheena Rogers book, Mini Cushions in Cross Stitch.  And what a joy this pattern was, Me being me, of course I used black fabric and then changed all the colours, which she encourages in the book. The orange and yellow are random floss of unknown origin, and the variegated floss is Cosmo 8079, this is the first time using Cosmo and it’s lovely stuff. This little pillow will serve as my entry to the Stitching Pirates Gaming contest which I can’t win on anyway as I’m a judge, but it’s still fun to play.

Critical Role Ep 43

Game the Game - Above and Below - This one looked fun.

Shadowhunters  Ep 5-6

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries Ep 48-100 plus spinoffs  - Such a wonderful thing,
so glad I found it.

Sense8 - Ep1- 4 Another Netflix series, a group of people around the world are psychically connected, just started but good so far.

Emma - The Gwenyth Paltrow version, light-hearted and fun.

The Scott Tournament of Hearts - Canadian women’s curling championship.

Vanya Sulie - Chapter 2

This blog started with Cindy and now that she’s done, I’ll consider this a new chapter,  It seems very strange not to be working on her, but I’m enjoying the easier patterns.  I did as said and have three on the go, Magical’s ornaments of course, I’m doing June now with sparkly thread that I of course both love and hate.
The chess mini cushion for the non entry to the Stitching Pirates contest this one is such fun and of course me been me I’m doing it on black instead of white,

And I have started Make it Pink’s Mulan the fabric is from Silkweavers and is lovely

As for what I watched.
Critical Role - rewatch is complete, I almost want to do it again

Supernatural S11 E07-12

The Lizzie Bennett Diaries Ep 1-48 A You Tube web series that is a modern retake of Pride and Prejudice It’s a lot of fun

Shadowhunters: S01 E01-E  Netflix show based on the Mortal Instruments books, changed quite a bit from the book but in a much more appropriate way than the movie did. Looks like this will be a good one

Muzzled the Musical: There is a wonderful world of you tube shows that I’m starting to discover and this three parter about song wars is awesome.

The Da Vinci Code - Like the books I prefer Angels and Demons,
but this is still a great mystery movie.  I still don’t like Tom Hanks as Langdon, he just doesn’t fit the role for me.  I do like that they toned down the romance that was in the book as it seemed very forced in the book

The Day After Tomorrow - High budget disaster movie that takes the actual effects of global warming and makes them happen in a week instead hundreds of years. Canada is toast, well frozen actually. A really good disaster movie and of course the dog survives

Dear Frankie - Independent Scottish Film, a woman needs a man to pretend to be her son’s father for a day, she gets Gerard Butler,

Dead pool - Well that was fun, the opening credits alone are worth the price of admission.

Die Hard - It really is one of the best action movies out there in no small part due to the villainy of Hans Gurber played by the great Alan Rickman.
